With increasing age, you may develop sagging skin around the eyes, heavy upper lids, double eyelids and bags under the lower lids and these unpleasant, natural age-related changes can make you look older and more tired than you feel.
The aim of blepharoplasty is to give the eyes a more youthful look by removing excess skin, bulging fat and lax muscle. Blepharoplasty can eliminate the obstruction and expand the visual field. It is one of the safest and reliable of all the cosmetic surgical procedures, with a very high satisfaction rate.
How does Eyelid lift work?
Blepharoplasty is performed by making a cut in the natural skin fold of the lid. Excess skin and fat are removed, after closure of the incision, the scar remains in the skin fold and is hardly visible. It’s possible to combine the surgery with other cosmetic treatments at the same time to enhance the youthful appearance of the face.
Is the procedure painful?
No. The procedure is performed under the local anaesthesia. The surgery can be done under sedation or general anaesthesia.
What are the risks?
The risks you need to consider are the risk of infection, the risk of a large bruise, the risk of the scar thickening to become more visible and a theoretical risk of blurry vision or double vision and dry eye.
What is the procedure like?
It is a day surgery. The surgery takes between 1 and 2 hours depending on the areas treated. Stitches are removed in 7 days after the surgery, the eyelid swelling will gradually settle and you will start looking and feeling better.
What is the recovery time?
The recovery may take few weeks. Advised to keep the daily activities to a minimum 5 days and it’s recommended to take a week or more off work. It’s recommended to keep the head elevated for several days and use icepack to reduce swelling.
